Retractable Belt Stanchions

The retractable belt post is the workhorse of queue management, and the whole product lives or dies on the cassette. A controlled recoil brings the belt back slowly under tension; a cheap spring lets it snap, which is loud, alarming and eventually breaks the mechanism.

The base is the other half. Ours are cast with the weight low and a friction ring underneath, so the post stands on a polished floor without walking and without marking it. A light base tips the first time a suitcase catches the belt, which is exactly when you least want it to.
